By KEVIN HILLIER - Division 1 Seniors
THERE was not a lot to learn from the Round 10 results in Division 1 with most going to current form, but this weekend will be a different kettle of fish.
Even though there is seven games left for all sides, except Spotswood who has eight, this weekend might see a few sides put the cue in the rack.
The top of the ladder clash between Hoppers Crossing and Deer Park is our 88.9 WYN FM radio match of the day and should be a ripper.
The Warriors are a game clear, and its only loss for the year was to Deer Park.
The big names returned last week for the Lions with Brendan Fevola and Kwame McHarg outstanding with seven goals each.
Shannon Byrnes should come back into the side, but as a six point player it means some juggling, which will make it difficult for the Lions to have its best side on the park any week.
The Warriors are pretty even across the board and seem to have matured a lot from last year.
While it won’t be the end of the world if they don’t win this week, I am sure they really want to, to show the competition and themselves they are the real deal.
Home ground advantage gets the Warriors home for me.
The Sunshine v Albion game will decide which club can still have a run at fifth place, because the loser is gone.
The winner will draw to within a game of Altona, who will be using the bye to see who the challengers are.
Sunshine has been the big disappointment of the season, and I think will continue to cause grief for its supporters this week by losing to the Cats.
Spotswood can totally extinguish any faint hopes St. Albans have by knocking them over this week, and in the process keep their top three hopes simmering. I can see that happening.
What a season it would be for the Wyndhamvale Falcons if they could not finish on the bottom of the ladder, as most of us would have expected at the start of the year.
I think they will need two more wins to do it, but one of those wins won’t come this week against Werribee Districts.
The boys from Soldiers Reserve welcomed Paul Chapman into the playing ranks last week, and have to keep winning to keep its spot in the top three secure.
Spotswood is breathing down the Tigers neck and with that in mind, Werribee will be far too strong for Wyndhamvale.
If I am right with my predictions this weekend the 5 is sorted, but the positions, are far from it.
