WHEN Sunshine runs on the field to take on St Albans on Saturday, one of their favourite sons will be celebrating a big milestone.
Corey Connor will be playing game 300 for the Kangaroos.
He says it has been an honour to represent the club and play alongside his good mates each week.
“I love the comradery, the mateship and the vibe around the club,” Connor said.
The talented player said the Sunshine Football Club was family for him, with several members of his family involved with the club over the years.
“I was born into the club,” Connor said.
“My dad and uncle played for the club and so has my older brother.
“I have always been involved with the club and have never left, hopefully I can continue on with the club.”
Looking back over his career so far, Connor said one of his highlights was playing in the grand final in Under-16’s as well as making his debut in the senior team as an 18-year-old.
Connor hopes to add more memories to his list of achievements with Sunshine.
Connor said there was a positive feeling among the team at the moment, especially after their comprehensive victory over Werribee Districts a fortnight ago.
“The club is feeling positive at the moment, we are all training well,” he said.
“We have the confidence that we can match it with the best.
“If we work hard and keep doing what we are doing, who knows what can happen.”
Meanwhile, club favourite Tom Millar also celebrated a significant milestone a couple of weeks ago.
The talented ruckman, playing in his 17th season, now holds the record for most games played in the seniors at Sunshine with 223 games.
He joked that he decided to play another season, so he could break the club’s record.
“I have retired a few times now, and keep coming back,” he laughed.
“I really enjoy playing… the young guys really keep the old guys like me going.”
Millar said this year might be his last, but admits he has said that before.
Sunshine take on St Albans at Kinder Smith Reserve at 2.15pm on Saturday.
