THE relentless Yarraville-Seddon Eagles upset North Footscray on Saturday, winning the Love the Game Cup.
The Devils hit the scoreboard early leaving the Eagles trailing by seven-points at quarter time, but lost control during the second term when several fumbled turnovers allowed the Eagles to create a five-goal-to-one lead.
The Eagles applied merciless pressure throughout the game which, coupled with the intense physicality, proved to be too much for the Devils.
The Devils bore the brunt of the highly physical match with Reece Duffield and Serafino Crea suffering concussions and reining league best-and-fairest, Kieran Murphy, sustaining an ankle injury, all in the first quarter.
Jack Hargreaves was one of the Eagles’ best, racking up four goals whilst Lachlan Longmire and Macauley Goring delivered a thrilling contest through the midfield.
Newport Power snatched its second win of the season after trailing Albanvale by five-points at half-time to finish with a 30-point lead.
Both teams went neck-to neck until half-time, but Power rallied during the third term delivering seven unanswered goals to get them over the line.
Mitchell Taleb and Youssef El Hawli were prolific for the Power, kicking five-goals each while Jehad Haddara was among the best on ground with two goals.
David Azzopardi snapped three goals for the Cobras and David Briscoe was dynamic with a fighting effort throughout the match.
Manor Lakes kept their finals hopes alive holding on to third place position on the ladder with a 15-point win over West Footscray.
Centre Half Forward Jackson Lesko was instrumental throughout the match kicking four goals for the Storm while Mitchell Davis landed two.
Key Forward, Corey Irving proved to be a handy choice for the Roosters kicking an outstanding seven goals to close the margin in his second game with the senior team.
The Roosters remain in the bottom spot with only one win so far this season placing them only one game behind Newport Power.
Round 10 kicks off on Saturday as Manor Lakes takes on Albanvale, Newport Power goes up against the Yarraville Seddon Eagles and West Footscray clashes with North Footscray.
STRONG SECOND HALF SECURES EAGLES WIN

THE Yarraville Seddon Eagles have reaffirmed its status as the premiership favourites after a strong 42-point win over rivals North Footscray.
The Devils had a five point lead at the first break, but then fell away in the final three quarters of play.
In the second half the Eagles outscored the Devils five goals to zero. The final score was 9.14. (68) to 4.2. (26).
Scott Krakouer scored three goals in the game. Nicholas Fry and Jarryd King also booted two goals each.
Meanwhile, at the Shorten Reserve, West Footscray remain at the bottom of the ladder after losing decisively against Manor Lakes by 69 points.
There was hope for the Roosters when they took slender lead after the first quarter, but by half-time, the Storm had already established a five goal lead, diminishing any hope the home side had of scoring an upset win.
The final score was 13.19. (97) to Roosters 4.4. (28).
The Storm had nine different goal scorers, Michael Jubb, Luke Styles, Paul Morris and Jake Guy all kicked two goals each.
Finally, Newport Power scored their fourth win of the season with a 53-point victory over Albanvale at the Robert Bruce Oval.
The Power led by 40-points at the main break and continued to apply the pressure in the second half.
The Cobras showed fight in the second half mainly thanks to the goal scoring effort of Ibrahim Atik who scored five goals, however it wasn’t enough, with Newport Power scoring an impressive win.
The final score was 5.12. (102) to Cobras 7.7. (49).
