THERE is no doubt the match of the round this week sees arch rivals Hoppers Crossing hosting Werribee Districts at Hogans Road Reserve.
We jokingly suggested on the radio that they should be playing for the “We don’t like one another Cup” and while that is a lighthearted suggestion, it is a fairly accurate observation.
They are both very good football clubs and teams and this game should be a cracker.
Werribee is a work in progress for senior coach Paul Chapman, and we have yet to see the best of them.
Hoppers is developing well under Steve Kretiuk, and are showing signs of becoming a consistent top line performer, who have the ability to score goals while restricting the opposition to not many majors.
I am going for the home team to just get their hands on the imaginary cup.
Altona and Sunshine is our 88.9 WYN FM radio match of the day and these two sides are still to really hit top form.
Altona has struggled to score goals, and Sunshine is not noted for its attacking prowess, so this might be a fairly dour affair. I hope not, and given the wide expanses of Grants Reserve the game is there for the team that dares to be bold.
I am tipping Altona, and I expect another bag from Vikings star Jayden Post.
Spotswood takes on Albion after a very good win over Sunshine. Steve Thom believes Albion is still dining out on beating Deer Park earlier in the season, and he might be right.
They need to show some mettle this week after a meek display at home against Hoppers Crossing.
Spotswood has more class than the Cats and should be victorious.
Wyndhamvale came back to earth with a thud last week after their glorious victory over Spotswood. A week is a long time in footy and the division one new boys face the reigning premiers Deer Park.
While most of the Deer Park boys will never have seen the ground before, the Falcons will need more than that to knock over Marc Bullen’s boys.
Mind you, Deer Park is a long way from the team that won the flag last year.
Bullen has admitted that their attitude has been less than required, and aptitude lacking at times as well. They can’t expect to just turn up and win regardless of who they are playing.
I can’t tip against Deer Park here.
St. Albans has the bye and while they showed glimpses of some good football last week against Districts, they need to come back after this break ready to give 100 per cent for four quarters, or their season is shot to bits.
