TWO of the WRFL’s junior rising stars were named in the School Sport Australia Under-15 All-Australian team after impressing at the national carnival last month.
Altona Juniors star Emerson Jeka and St Bernard’s young gun Jeremy O’Sullivan were both picked in the All-Australian team after standout performances for Victoria during the week-long event.
The dynamic duo have had some experience playing alongside each other, they both represented the WRFL at the Junior Metro Championships.
Victoria claimed the school title, going through the carnival undefeated.
Emerson was the standout forward in the competition, kicking 19 goals in five games.
“It was an unbelievable experience for me,” he said.
“To play with so many talented kids was a huge highlight and winning the championship was the best.
“I was happy with my performances and was so glad when I was selected for the All-Australian team.
“I’m very proud to be in the team, but more happy that we won as a team.”
Spotswood’s Ethan Bentley and Werribee Districts’ Lachlan Rzanovski were also involved in the Under-15 Vic team.
Emerson said he has made some great friends with his Victorian team-mates and said the overall School Sport Australia experience was a positive one.
This year, Emerson has also had an incredible season with the Altona Juniors, booting 59 goals.
He said his next footy goal was to make the 2017 Under-16 Brad Johnson squad.
“I want to play well and be selected for the Vic Metro team to play in the National Championships, my dream is to be drafted in a couple of years’ time,” Emerson said.
Williamstown Juniors player Matthew Payne was also involved in the Under-12 Victorian team who claimed the School Sport Australia title.
