AFL Victoria is pleased to announce the fixturing of a representative clash with AFL Queensland on Saturday June 7 2015.
A side chosen from Melbourne’s six premier senior community competitions will face a representative side from Queensland clubs who compete in the North East Football League, combined with players who ply their trade in the sunshine State’s community leagues.
The game will take place in Queensland during the June long weekend at Burpengary, which is situated approximately 40 minutes north of Brisbane.
The announcement provides players who represent their league in the 2015 Metro Championships on Saturday March 28 with an added incentive to perform and potentially earn selection in the Victorian Metropolitan side.
AFL Victoria General Manager Steven Reaper said the match was an important addition to the football calendar.
“Last year the AFL Victoria Community Cup saw Vic Metro take-on a WorkSafe AFL Victoria Country team and this provided a showcase for community football in Victoria,” Reaper said.
“With WorkSafe AFL Victoria Country scheduled to play the Victorian Amateur Football Association in their traditional bi-annual clash this year, we engaged our counterparts in Queensland to find a suitable opponent for a metropolitan combined side.
“This opportunity provides players the chance to play at a higher level and the privilege of representing Vic Metro, an opportunity they will remember long after their playing careers are finished.”
More details surrounding the match will be released in the coming weeks.
