“This is the third year of the Championships,” said AFL Queensland Development Manager, Brent Kelly, “the championships were designed to give our Talented Players from the Regional Areas of South East Queensland and The Northern Rivers an opportunity to showcase their skills against other boys from similar sized leagues. This is the first step in the Talented player Pathway for U14 boys in this region. Here the boys are also given the chance to be selected for their nearest metropolitan representative squads such as Gold Coast Stingrays or Western Taipans.”
The Northern Rivers Storm will test themselves against teams from the Darling Downs and Bundaberg WideBay on the weekend of the 19th and 20th of May at Highfields in Toowoomba. “The Championship format will see each region once and then an “All stars” team is selected to play against a local club side, it is quite a big weekend of Football.”
