HM R1 Canterbury 22 Souths 28 (Report)

Bulldogs OLD

Canterbury have lost their opening Harold Matthews match of the season going down 28-22 against South Sydney at Erskineville Oval.

The Bulldogs jumped out to an early 12-0 lead thanks to tries from Ibby Rafraf and Pita Siganiscou with Brendan Cox converting both tries.

Souths capitalised on Bulldogs errors to score three unanswered tries in the space of eight minutes through Alex Sorge, Danny Allende and Ethan Natoli to lead 16-12.

Canterbury regained the lead two minutes before half-time when Jason Tuulau crashed over to be up 18-16 at the half-time break.

The lead changed hands again 10 minutes into the second half when Charles Moreton scored a converted try and a length of the field effort from Alex Johnston 12 minutes later virtually put Canterbury out of the match.

An error from the kick off from Souths gave Canterbury the ball in good field position and from the scrum win Jonathan Legas scored wide out to bring the Bulldogs back within six points.

Souths held onto the lead for the final moments to seal victory winning 28-22.

Bulldogs prop Anthony Semrany was judged Players Player by his fellow team-mates.
