Round 15 Senior Mens First Grade Preview
The last round of the season is finally upon us, and there is none bigger than a clash of first against second, Casey taking on Werribee.
These two teams have had classic games over the past two seasons, with Werribee being the recent victor with the win in the Grand Final of the First Grade last year, and more recently the win in the ISC NRL Victoria 9’s competition.
However, both teams will be wary of the outcome of the game, with Finals beginning next week, injuries and momentum will be key for both teams.
This is more than likely the first of two legs for the fixture, with both teams cementing their spot in first and second respectively with both teams looking to get a slight edge over their opponent.
Werribee Bears coach, Josh Makiri, outlined that while it’s the last game of the season, “that it is another opportunity for our boys to build on our structures, and possibly change a few things before Finals start, but keeping our boys healthy is priority at this stage of the season.”
In their previous clash this year, the Warriors were able to get the upper hand, winning 28-12 in what was a one-sided affair. Brandon Taua’A was able to score a double, while both Waka Sweet and Jordin Leiu were also able to impact the scoreboard. Furthermore, with these guys having strong seasons, defence for the Bears will be paramount, not only this weekend, but for the Finals series coming up.
In the weekend’s other games, third and fourth placed teams, Sunbury and Northern Thunder will look to get some momentum before their elimination final next week, taking on North West Wolves and Waverley respectively. Sunbury star, Samisoni Fusi will look to add to his try-scoring rout this year, currently sitting on 19 for the year. Altona Roosters will take on Doveton in the final game, to close out the First Grade home-and-away season.
