Women's First Grade Preview Round 15
Last week could be the turning point the Women’s competition needed, with an upset victory over Truganina propelling Altona into finals contention. In a much needed win, the Roosters were able to edge the ladder leaders by 2 points, in what could be the kickstarter they needed.
This week however is not going to be easy to back-up, with a matchup with the Doveton Steelers, who are currently second on the ladder. While finals are all but confirmed for both sides, the shape of the top four is wide open, with a point separating second, third and fourth, and only two games remaining.
In their previous match up, the game was dead locked at 24-all, with neither side able to get enough momentum and separate themselves on the scoreboard. Lydia Quedley scored a brace in the meeting, scoring 10 tries for the season and being an important factor in the Roosters success. Alofa Mekuli scored a brace as did Katalina Okusitino-Felise, and will be looking to add some more fire power this weekend.
However, with their upset win last week, the Roosters will be full of confidence of knocking off the top two teams in successive weeks.
Doveton managed to scrape together a win, but not in the convincing manner that we expected, most likely due to the weather conditions. They outlasted Casey 6-4, but will be looking to apply more pressure on top of the table Rabbitohs with a win against Altona.
In this weekend’s other games, the Rabbitohs will play the bottom placed, South Eastern Titans, in a bid to regain some momentum after their disappointing loss last week.
