Battle for Tag Champions heats up in the U/17's

With Finals just around the corner, there is no bigger game in the U/17 Girls Tag Competition than this weekend’s fourth against sixth match-up between Doveton Steelers and North West Wolves.

In what is a season defining four-point game for both clubs, the victor will announce themselves with a likely finals position secured, while for the loser, an opportunity gone begging.

While Doveton are fourth, a game clear of North West, coach Buds Aholima knows the importance of this game for the attack on the top teams in the competition, “the pressure is on especially going into our last four games before finals, we just have to play smart, and focus on the next game only.”

Recognising the scoring prowess of North West, who currently rank fourth in the competition for points scored, coach backed in her team in on completing the job this weekend, “we need to work hard on shutting them down when we are on defence, and I think the girls can successfully do that.”

The race for the leading try-scorer will be heating up with this game being no different with Lani Afiafi [North West] and Alicia Pena-Tipene [Doveton Steelers] looking to add to their tally.

In other games in this week’s Women in League round, Hume City will play host to Casey vying for their first victory this year, while Northern Thunder will look to enter the top four as they go up against Truganina. Werribee will host South East Titans in a do-or-die clash with the loser likely out of finals contention, while the winner having some hope left. League leaders will play Sunshine Cowboys to solidify their spot on top of the competition. The second-placed Roosters will play against Melton to close out the round of football.
