Victorian teams travel to Wollongong for CRL Championships

By Tate Spiteri

The Victorian U/14 and U/15 teams are today travelling to Sydney to take part in the Country Rugby League Championships (Southern Division).

The Championships span across both Saturday and Sunday this weekend with both Victorian teams starting their campaign against Canberra on Saturday at 11am and 12pm respectively.

The Championship effectively works under a knockout format with 4 consecutive wins required to win the Southern Zone Cup.

Consolation games are also put in place with losers from game one moving into a chance to play for the Southern Zone Plate on the Sunday, consecutive Saturday losses however would end the tournament early.

Collegians Rugby League club in Wollongong will host the event and the Victorian U/15s will use it as a tune up for next weeks National Carnival.

The U/15 Victorians will start their National carnival next Sunday the 25th of June also in Wollongong.

They will meet fellow Pool B members Northern Territory on Sunday, South Australia on Monday and Western Australia on Wednesday.

The top two teams will then play for the John Allen Trophy on the Friday.
