Casey Warriors vs Werribee Bears

The Major Semi Final takes place at Haines Reserve on Saturday when minor premiers Casey Warriors take on second placed Werribee Bears. For the second year in a row the two teams will meet in the major semi-final, with Casey 8 point winners over Werribee in 2015, prior to another 8-point victory over the Bears in the grand-final.

Casey come into the 2016 finals series after a dominant season, losing just once in 2016. That loss came at the hands of their semi-final opponents in Round 3 where Werribee came away 14-10 winners at Casey Fields.

Werribee have backed up last year’s grand final appearance with a solid 2016 season as well, dropping just 2 matches themselves, with a 2-point loss to Altona and a tight Round 12 defeat to Casey.

Both teams have been the front-runners of the 2016 season, with a clear buffer between them and third placed Northern Thunder. This is an absolute blockbuster of a match with both sides aiming to be the first into the decider and earn themselves a valuable week off.

Northern Thunder vs Doveton Steelers

Northern Thunder have had a huge turnaround in 2016 after a disappointing 2015 season where they finished a distant last place on the table with just 1 win for the season. That seems like a distant memory with a raft of changes at the club revitalising the side helping them to 3rd on the 2016 ladder. Thunder will be looking to make their overhaul complete by taking their team deep into the 2016 finals series.

Doveton have also had an improved 2016, taking the last finals spot of the season and earning their shot at the title. In 2016, Doveton have beaten each team in the competition at least once, bar the 3 teams above them. It’s a game that Doveton will need to lift for in order to reverse that trend and progress through to the preliminary final.

In what is the first of the elimination finals for 2016, this match promises to be a toughly fought out one with both teams leaving it all on the pitch in order to keep their season alive.
