Rabbitohs and Bears in Top of the Table Clash
By Matt Hughes (NRL Vic Media)
This Saturday sees a top of the table clash between Werribee Bears and Truganina Rabbitohs in the Men’s NRL Victoria first grade competition.
Currently Truganina sits in first spot on 20 points, while reigning premiers Werribee are just behind on 18 points.
The two sides faced each other earlier this year in a one-sided affair where the Rabbitohs prevailed 52 to 10. This game is sure to be closer, with both teams only suffering losses to Altona since that match.
Werribee coach Curtly Tuala is confident in his sides’ ability.
“They’ve shown that they (Truganina) have a lot of class,” he said.
“But I have the belief we can get the job done.”
Tuala sees the match as a great opportunity for his side.
“It’ll be good to see where we are at,” he said.
“It will be a hard battle through the middle.”
“But we do have our strongest 17 available for the first time.”
During training this week Tuala placed added emphasis on “getting the little things right”.
“Practice makes perfect,” he said.
“We’ve been trying to do things at 100% intensity so that transfers into the game.”
Truganina on the other hand will be feeling refreshed coming off a bye last weekend. A win over last years premiers will cement their position as the competition’s frontrunners.
Coach Frank Mulipola expects a “tough” contest against the Bears.
“I expect it to be a tough game,” he said.
“They would have prepared well.”
The Rabbitohs have only lost one match up until now, compared with six losses at the same time last year. Mulipola says there is no secret formula behind his side’s success.
“It comes down to a hard work ethic,” he said.
“We’ve been fortunate to ride out early-season injuries.”
Tomorrow’s match kicks off at 3.45pm at Haines Drive Reserve.
