ISC NRL 9s Preview: Semi-Finals

ISC NRL 9s Preview:

By Jayden Cameron

The semi-finals for the ISC NRL 9s kicks off again this Saturday at AAMI Park, with teams looking to find confidence as finals are fast approaching for all divisions.

Pakenham, who is in the reserve grade, will have their backs against the wall as they face the Casey Warriors, while Werribee will be aiming to continue their dominant form in the first grade competition, kicking off against Doveton.

The Werribee Bears are currently sitting 2nd on the ladder in the first grade competition, all but cementing a spot in the finals. However, after a tight matchup against Altona Roosters last round, they will be searching for some of the form that separated them from the rest of the competition earlier in the season. With the added space in the 9s competition, Werribee’s Nicholas Donghi will look to exploit the Doveton defence.

In the other game, Pakenham will aim to create some of the form that saw them sneak past North West Wolves in their matchup back in April. However, this weekend’s task will be far from easy as they take on Casey, the leaders in the first grade competition.

The Eels’ form in the reserve competition has been strong, with a confidence building win over the Sunbury United Tigers last weekend. Leading try-scorer, Damascus Havlitama will have to be on his game to help gift his side a win.

Casey however are undefeated in the first grade competition, rarely being tested for majority of the season. After a massive win over Waverley, they were able to back it up against a stronger Sunbury line-up, comfortably winning 30-16.

Jeremy Broughton will try and add to his try tally this season, as Casey will look to continue their strong form as finals are fast approaching.

While the 9’s is only a small tournament for these teams, they will look find some form as the more important stage of the competition arises in the coming weeks.
