John edges out FOGS teammate Sila to lead Player of the Year
At the halfway mark of the 2017 NRL Victoria First Grade Competition young stars Zev John (Altona) and William Sila (Northern Thunder) lead the Player of the Year count.
At the completion of round 8 Altona’s Zev John had polled 11 votes to have him narrowly ahead of his Victorian teammate William Sila.
John and Sila have been in outstanding First Grade form with John bursting out of the blocks by scoring two tries in each of Altona’s first three games while Sila has scored 9 tries and 15 goals from just 6 games for the Thunder.
Werribee’s Troy Hanita-Paki is next on the list with 9 votes. Hanita-Paki is also the competitions leading try scorer with 10 tries and is joined by teammates Kuros Metuariki (5 votes) and Chase Hoare (4 votes) as the competitions most prominent vote getters.
Doveton’s Dillan Brittain (6 votes) and Sunbury’s George Lolohea (5 votes) round out the top 5.
Unsurprisingly, Casey players have accumulated the most votes with the undefeated club combining for 29 votes, Werribee are the next best voted club with 25.
