Women and Juniors Mid Season Review
At the halfway point of the 2017 season its time to look at who is edging towards glory in the NRL Victoria Women’s and junior sections.
The Truganina Rabbitohs have burst out of the blocks in the Women’s First Grade competition sitting undefeated at the top of the ladder. Doveton and Northern Thunder are the closest challengers having lost just 1 and 2 games respectively.
The Thunder’s Airana Lautasi is the competitions leading try scorer with 8 while Doveton’s Jean-Shannel Schmidt and Altona duo Lydia Quedley and Patrice Mareikura have 6.
Doveton are also having a good season in the Women’s Tag competition sitting at the top of the table ahead of the Waverley Oakleigh Panthers. The same two teams sit at the top of the table in the Girls U17 Tag.
As for the Men’s second division the Truganina Rabbitohs have started their season undefeated to edge out Werribee and Doveton at the top of the table. Sunshine’s Jahmal Paul has been the standout try scorer with 8 tries while Nicholas Donghi has pressed his Werribee First Grade claims with 7.
To the U18s the South Eastern Titans have formed an early gap on the rest of the competition with 6 consecutive wins. Sunbury and Casey are the immediate challengers. A big reason for the Titan’s dominance has been the form of John Salatielu who has scored 10 tries.
Sunbury and Casey are showing their strong junior depth by also performing well in the U16 competition. The clubs sit first and second ahead of Altona and the Northern Thunder with the winless Doveton rounding out the competition.
The Thunder’s Jermaine Tui has been the competitions most prolific try scorer with 6.
The U15s competition is being lead by Altona and Sunbury but it is Northern Thunders Gabriel Kaupa and Casey’s Tim Taulia leading the try scorers with 8 each.
The U14 and U13 competitions both have undefeated pairs at the top of the tables.
Northern Thunder and Werribee are cruising in the U14 division while its Waverley and Sunshine looking good in the U13s.
Sualavi Faalogo has scored 10 tries at U14 level and Waverley’s Zinzan Kahu has been the dominant scorer in the U13s with 8.
As for the U12s Altona Blue are sitting undefeated at the top of the ladder largely thanks to Tipi Leha’s 10 tries. While in the U11s both Casey and Hume City remain undefeated with Casey leading the table due to Hume City dropping points in a draw.
