U/18 Combined Affiliated States Championship 2013

On the Queens Birthday long weekend in June our U/18s team travelled to Adelaide to play in the Combined Affiliated States Championships. This is a 3 day carnival, and Victoria continued their winning ways at this age group remaining undefeated over the carnival, and winning the Sam Davey Plate for the 5th consecutive year.

The first game was against South Australia and Victoria completely dominated as expected. The team played a very direct style of footy against a much less experienced team scoring 16 tries.

It was then to look to the 2nd game against Western Australia. As WA beat Northern Territory in their first game, this game shaped up as ‘the final’ of the championship. While WA were strong and showed some character in defence- particularly the first half, our boys played really well and executed fantastic to win the game with a convincing 38-18 scoreline.

The third and final challenge was Northern Territory who regained some confidence with a victory over South Australia. Victoria started strongly, and made sure that throughout the game their effort in defence was outstanding. This resulted in another convincing victory, winning 38-4.

The players had put in a lot of hard work over a long period of time, and this showed throughout the championship displaying lots of imagination in attack, grittiness in defence and their ability to be able to execute their game plans with precision.
