Fundraising for a winter competiiton
GTA have partnered with Australian Sports Foundation to setup a foundation to support the project which will install lights at King Lloyd Reserve so we can provide our 300 members a chance to participate in winter. Our link is shown below. Click the link for more info. Please like and share our Facebook post and FB page (Geelong Touch) to let everyone know! All donations are tax deductible.
Geelong Touch Association is a non-profit association with nearly 300 members, providing a fun, healthy and active non-contact mixed sport to our local community of all ages. We have over 100 females, 50 juniors and 150 males participating each season with three divisions to suit all levels of ability. Our sport is one of the leading community sports in Australia due to its inclusivity, allowing families and friends of any skill level to enter teams and play together in our local competition. We have people ranging from 10 years to 67 years of age playing together and against each other through our Monday A/B grade competition or our Wednesday Family grade competition.
We have been working hard to develop an application of interest to our local council in applying for the most recent State Government funding for facility upgrades. We would love to provide our members with floodlights so they can participate in winter competitions and play all year round.
The project is going to cost between $250,000 and $300,000 and the funding from the Government is capped at $100,000. Geelong Touch will be contributing all of our savings ($25,000) since we were first operational in 1996. This means the Council will need to decide whether they want to invest up to $175,000 towards the project.
We are requesting financial support from the local community. If you were able to contribute that would greatly add to the weight of our application with Council, as they wouldn’t have to spend as much to support the project.
We have partnered with Australian Sports Foundation and have setup a tax-deductible donation link that can be accessed on the next link. https://asf.org.au/projects/geelong-touch-association/
Our data shows that on average 85% of the participants in the summer Melbourne competitions (approximately 1000 members at both Fawkner Park and Albert Park) play in the winter competitions. Therefore we would expect approximately the same amount of numbers to participate in our only Geelong competition.
We also aim to run a junior competition at the same time of our senior competition, which would include more participants, following the school programs that we will run in the future.
If we were able to provide our members with lights at the grounds it would also increase the chances of gaining more volunteers due to increasing participation levels, it would allow other user groups such as football and soccer clubs use of the venue if their grounds were unfit for use and allow more spectators and people wishing to walk their dogs around the grounds at night.
We are gratefully thankful for your consideration, and as you can read this contribution could be the difference towards achieving our next major goal that would greatly increase participation for our local community.
