Palau national swimmer UB Misech and Japanese veteran swimmer Satori Seto shared the top honors in the 5-kilometer division of the open water swim of the 7th Annual IP&E Palau Challenge held last November 30 at the world class Palau Pacific Resort.
Misech clocked in at 53 minutes and 34 seconds to claim first place honors in the women’s division of the 5-kilometer swim as compatriot Osisang Chilton (55.28) and Japanese swimmer Miyuki Fujita (1:03.20) settled for second and third place.
In the men’s division, Japanese swimmer Satoru Seto submitted a time of 48 minutes and 13 seconds to claim first place as Nelson Masang (1:07.42) and Demei Yobech (1:10.15) landed second and third place.
Other winners saw men’s 3-kilometer – Mineo Kazumi (1st place); women’s 3-kilometer – Romellen Maido (1st place), Berneace Balayo (2nd place), Roylin Akiwo (3rd place); men’s 1.5-kilometer – Jericho Maido (1st place), Jimmy Jonas (2nd place); women’s 1.5-kilometer – Holly Zinchefsky (1st place), Aizza Akiwo (2nd place), Ikelau Misech (3rd place); men’s 500 meter – Jojo Labro (1st place); women’s 500 meter – Ku’ulani Misech (1st place) and Julia Polloi (2nd place).
Winners received their certificates and specially crafted trophies during the award night held at the PPR. The annual event, which is also considered a sports tourism event, is sponsored by IP&E Palau, Palau Pacific Resort, DELTA Airlines, Pie Printing, PVA, Belau Triathlon Federation, PNOC, Palau Swimming Association, Sam's Tours and Surangel and Sons Company.
