7. Eligibility

 

The 2017 Digicel Tonga Table Tennis Open is open to all National Associations

 

-     Only the entries of athletes endorsed by their NA will be accepted

 

-     The date for determining eligibility for age group events shall be as of 31st December 2016

-     Players can only compete in two Categories or Grade/Class.

8. Format of Play

 

Singles Events

 

All singles events will be played in two stages, the first stage will be played as groups of 3 or preferably 4 athletes, followed by a main draw knock-out stage.

-     All matches will be best of three games, except the Open singles knock-out stage, which will be best of five games for Semi-finals and Finals.

Doubles Events

 

-     All events will be straight knock-out, unless there are less than four entries in total for the event, in which case a round robin will be conducted

 

-     All matches will be best of three games

Note: If in AWD events there is insufficient entries Men’s and Women’s singles will be combined.

         U12 Doubles and U16 Doubles is merged into one Event which is the U16 Doubles. U21

         Doubles is merged with the Open category, so they compete in the Open Doubles.

 

  1. 10.  Seeding & Draws

 

The seeding for each event will be determined based on the current Oceania Rating

List as at the time of the draw, if the Oceania Rating List is six months out of date, the current ITTF Ranking List will be used where possible, followed by the latest Oceania Rating List.

 

11. Confirmed Schedule

 

 

Saturday 15th July:   Competition will start at 9:00am and finish at 4:00pm where the tournament will conclude with the Prize Presentations.  

 

 

 

12. Prize Money

 

The 2017 Digicel Tonga Table Tennis Open will have a total minimum prize money of TOP$1,620. The breakdown will be as follows with all prize money being the same for Men’s and Women’s events.

13. Hospitality

 

All accommodation, meals and transport arrangements are to be made by each individual. There are several accommodation options around Nuku’alofa, in which further details can be obtained from the Organizing Committee.

 

If you require additional assistance in hospitality arrangements, please contact the Organizing Committee or Tonga Table Tennis Federation.

 

14. Travel and Health Insurance

 

All participants (athletes, coaches, accompanying persons) are required to have their own travel and health insurance.

 

15. Visa Requirements

 

For those requiring a visa to enter Tonga, the local organising committee will help with the application process to assist in ensuring the visa is approved on time. Participants must ensure they have received their Tonga Visa prior to their departure.

 

16. Obligations

 

All athletes entered must compete against any other participating athlete and by entering, agree to be bound by the ITTF Anti-Doping, Anti-Harassment, Classification, Illegal Betting and Corruption policies and procedures during the event. The entry forms contain an undertaking to be signed by a responsible official of the nominating association and the team member covering these matters and no entry will be accepted unless such an undertaking has been given.

17. Television, Motion Picture & Internet Coverage Conditions

 

By entering the event, athletes agree to abide by all ITTF Rules and by the rules and regulations of the Organising Committee. All entered associations and individual athletes agree to be under the auspices of the ITTF and its agents in all matters concerning television coverage, video, internet web casting, motion picture coverage and photographic coverage of any kind.

 

Participants release all rights or rights held by their agents or sponsors, in all matters relating to television and web casting coverage, video and motion picture coverage and photographic coverage of any kind. A participant's refusal of above listed coverage may be subject to suspension or dismissal from the competition.

 

18. Betting

 

In the context of betting, participants shall not, by any manner whatsoever infringe the principle of fair play, show unsporting conduct or attempt to influence the course or result of a competition or any part thereof in a manner contrary to sporting ethics. Any violation of this principle shall be disciplined according to provisions of ITTF Regulations section 6.

 

19. Doping

 

Doping tests may be conducted during the event in accordance with ITTF anti-doping rules. Please refer to Section 5: ITTF Anti-Doping Rules of the ITTF Handbook - http://www.old.ittf.com/ittf_handbook/ittf_hb.html

 

Please note that these rules are updated as of 2017.

 

Please note that for athletes under the age of 18 years, a parent or guardian must accompany them during the testing process. The parent or guardian must be over the age of 18 years.

 

Should any athletes require a therapeutic exemption, this should be registered with the ITTF at least 30 days prior to the 2017 Digicel Tonga Table Tennis Open.

Entry Conditions

 

Entries must be postmarked or emailed no later than the closing dates Friday 16th June 2017 for all events to the Organizing Committee or Tonga Table Tennis Federation either by email, fax, phone or register direct at TTTF Office at TASA.

 

Please send us the transfer advice or deposit slip if you are paying directly into the bank account and allow for bank charges also.

 

Fees are refundable if advice of a withdrawal is received by TTTF no later than 2 days after the closing date.

 

TTTF reserves the right to refuse any entry and to vary restrictions at its discretion.

 

Both players in doubles pairing must submit separate individual entries for the doubles event. Players enter at their own risk and no responsibility will be accepted for any injury received during the tournament.

 

International athletes are not eligible to enter Grade events.
