A lot is at stake in Suva as the next generation will be chasing limited spots on this year’s biggest stages when the ITTF-Oceania Junior Championships get underway next month.
In the junior teams events, two teams from both the boys’ and girls’ events will qualify for the World Junior Championships to be held in Italy later this year. It will be an invaluable opportunity to bank some experience against the top players in the world.
Meanwhile in the in the junior singles events it isn’t just a title and medal up for grabs. A scholarship of AU$1,500 will be award to the junior boys and girls champions.
In the cadet age group the singles events will be conducted over two stages, with the first stage being played in groups, and the second stage being a progressive knockout. Following this, the Oceania Cadet Team for the World Cadet Challenge will be determined, with a maximum of one athlete per National Association making up the team of four.
In addition, as Fiji is hosting the 2017 ITTF World Cadet Challenge, the 5th and 6th placed athletes will join Fiji athletes to form the Fiji-Pacific team for the World Cadet Challenge.
A lot of opportunities are waiting for Oceania’s juniors in April; it’s going to be a fiery four days.
