League Women Round 5 Eagles v Ansett

The Eagles picked up their third win out of the last five games played, their second win over Ansett 78-59. Molly Althouse (12.2ppg) led the Eagles with an exciting brand of play that netted her a game high 22 points followed by 12 from Faye Armstrong 11 from Trish Graham (15.7ppg) and 10 each from Michelle Friel (13.8ppg) & Caroline Debusch. The Birds took an early 18-13 lead and built that up into a 20pt buffer at 60-40 at the end of three quarters. The Blues kept trying to make inroads into the Eagle lead but couldn’t sustain any of their challenges long enough to catch up. Erin Boyd (14.4ppg) & Tamiyah Perkins (9.1ppg) hit 16 each and Ruta Valiulyte added 14, but it wasn’t enough to match what the Birds were putting up.

Lightning v Razzle

Lightning made sure there was no repeat of their 65-60 overtime win over the Razzle on Friday night by beating the Green & Gold decisively in regulation time 71-35. Employing a full court press part of the time the Lightning capitalized on turnovers by the Razzle to build up a 28-15 half time lead and extended that out to 36 by the end of the game. Dominique Carbone (11.7ppg) hit a season high 20 (including 6 treys) for the Lightning with help from Grace Morcom 12, Kira Pendlebury 11 & Hayley Hendrickson 10. Rebecca Murray (16.7ppg) led the Razzle with 16. And…the two teams meet again next Friday for their third consecutive game!

Men

Razzle v Tracy Village Jets

The Tracy Village Jets claimed only their third win of the season when they edged past the Razzle 79-71. The return to the court by Jets experienced guard Michael MacLean (16.7ppg) made all the difference to the young Jets side. MacLean not only scored 20 points, but he dished out at least that many in assists during the win. The Razzle started well with a 19-18 first quarter lead, but fell into a funk in the second quarter as the Bombers ran off 22 points to just 10 for the Green & Gold to lead 40-29 at the break. Razzle then outscored the Jets 25-18 in the third quarter thanks to the hot-handed Reed Ridder to be just four points down heading into the last quarter 58-54. But, the Jets hung on with a 21-17 run to end any hope the Razzle may have had. Ross Vasic (14ppg) led the Jets with 25 (7 treys) and Jackson Tremlett (8.6ppg) added a season high 18 (8 from the charity stripe). Ridder (30.2ppg) led all scorers with 39 and Brendan Dell (13.8ppg) hit 14.
