League Women - Ansett v Eagles
Ieasha Friel hit 11 of her game high 19 in the third quarter to help the Eagles overcome Ansett in an upset 68-52 win that sends them into a Grand Final match-up with the Tracy Village Jets. The Birds wasted no time setting the tempo in this game as they shot out to a 17-10 first quarter lead and were still on top at half time 27-22. The third quarter proved to be critical for the Birds as they flew past the grounded Blues with a 28-14 run led by Friel to take their lead out to 19 points at 55-36 with just the fourth quarter to play. The Blues tried to get back into contention, but the Birds held on for the victory and now face a big task in trying to unseat the defending champs Jets. Friel (20.6ppg) was backed up by a solid team effort from Jaylene Boundry (14 @ 10.9ppg), Edith Boundry (9) and the Williams duo of Lillian & Alysha-Maria (7ppg ea) with 8 apiece. Tal Yakov (27.7ppg) again led the Blues with 17, Alison Fleming (15 @ 4.6ppg) and Ruta Valiulyte 11. For the record Tal Yakov from Ansett set a new DBA record for most points scored in a season with 555. The old record was 544 set by Tamara Sheppard in 2010. The last time the Eagles and Jets took court against each other in a Championship Season GF was 2010 and it was a 9pt win to the Jets…can the Birds turn the table this time around?

League Men – Uni Rebels v Palmerston Power
The Uni Rebels booked passage to their sixth Grand Final in the last nine years with a 103-83 win over the Palmerston Power. The Rebels won four of their last eight appearances and will be trying to tack on another this time around. Spencer Coleman (35 @ 29ppg) and Tim Morris (26 @ 28.8ppg) accounted for 61 of the Rebels points as they made sure the red, white and blue colours of the club are represented in the Grand Final. The Rebels held a narrow 24-19 first quarter lead that became a 10 point 54-44 lead at half time. Despite the efforts of Willie Shackleford and Garrett Hall the Power couldn’t gain any momentum to help close the gap. It was a 75-65 lead with a quarter to play and the Rebels stepped up in the fourth to outscore the Power 28-18 to run out easy winners. Jake Kirby (12ppg) added 15 and Glen Scott 14 @ 90.1ppg for the Rebels while for the Power Hall (25.8ppg) hit a team high 26, Shackleford (22.2ppg) had 24 and Ben Streeter 20 @ 12ppg (including 6 treys).
