FIJI TIMES ARTICLE - SHOOTERS EYE GOLD AS THEY PREPARE FOR NEW ZEALAND EVENT

Shooting Association of Fiji is taking seven shooters to New Zealand for the clay trap shooting event.

Shooter Michael Phua said he was aiming for a gold medal.

He said he had been to Australian and New Zealand nationals before and returned a winner and this time around with better preparation, he was not settling for nothing less than a win.

Going with the team is veteran shooter Dave Evans who represented Fiji at the Commonwealth Federation Games in Australia in 2005.

Association official Quintyn Stephen said the shooters were experienced and they had high hopes.

"The team to the New Zealand nationals will be training tomorrow (today). Today the focus is on pistols," he said.

"Two new pistol events had been introduced at the Pacific Games. The .22 and the air pistol. We have the .22s in Fiji but we are trying to get the air pistols."

The DTL New Zealand Nationals will be held from March 7 to the March 14 in Christchurch.
