FIJI TIMES - SHOOTERS TAKE AIM
THE Fiji Shooting Association wants more people to take up shooting.
The association is hoping to take the sport into schools.
Shooting team had won three gold medals and settled with four silvers and two bronze medals at the Pacific Games in Papua New Guinea.
Association section manager Henry Stephen said Fiji had a lot of talents in shooting.
"SAF intends to seek assistance from the Fiji National Sports Council, FASANOC and the Ministry of Sports in building a fully fledged shooting range that will cater for both DTL (shotgun) as well as the various forms of standard.
"This also includes the air pistols as well as rifle competition.
"In line with SAF's strategic plan, pistol shooting is hoped to be introduced into schools in the Suva area and develop the sport amongst junior and encourage female shooters as well."
Stephen said the sport was well received at the Pacific Games.
"The XV Pacific Games saw pistol shooting for the very first time. This discipline shot totally or partially indoors and it is imperative that Fiji has such a facility," he added.
"The air pistol team won the team silver medal and one shooter made it into the final 8 to shoot off, only missing a medal by 0.1 point.
"There is talent in Fiji and it needs to be nurtured and developed."
