Hockey World league qualifies here in Vanuatu

THE Vanuatu Hockey Federation will be hosting the ‘World Series Round One’ of Hockey in Port Vila, at Wan Smol Bag Sports Field on August 15-18.
The Vanuatu Hockey Federation says it is very pleased to announce that Solomon Islands, Fiji and Tonga are expected to travel here to play the senior men’s and women’s hockey squads.
Before the tournaments starts in August, the Vanuatu Hockey Federation has organised the senior men’s and women’s finals plus the U14 finals for boys and girls as well.
Following the final tournament qualification for the senior men and \women and also for the U18 boys and girls on June 28, the teams were selected to play in the upcoming ‘World Series Round One’ tournament this year.

From the final tournament selection this week the first place goes to team, Team Losers, Southern Sharks took the second place, third place went to Team Mazon and fourth to the Tanoliu team. For the U18 hockey boys’ tournament the first place went to Los Angeles, second place to All Kids, third place to Youth Ark and fourth to 36 Boys team.
For the Senior women the first place went to Team Parrot, second to the Pam Power, third place went to Team Dolphine and fourth place goes to Team Dragon. The teams not only won the spot to compete in the World Series Round One’ but also cash prizes that.
The Havannah resort is the sponsor for the Hockey League and the VHF is about to sign with BSP for VT250,000 towards the event and Wan Smol Bag is also sponsoring this tournament.
Telecom Vanuatu Limited (TVL) is also on board as a major sponsor for this year’s most exciting tournament and will be donating cash plus free Wi-Fi for the event and SIM cards for all visiting athletes and staff.
The Hockey Federation and TVL will be signing an agreement for this sponsorship in the following weeks.
Vanuatu Hockey Coach Todd Kitto said that they are still seeking additional support to cover the costs of the tournament and also to support their athletes.
“In the lunch break, each day we will run U15 boys and girls matches open to public to play. We encourage all visitors to come watch and try hockey,” he said.
Other than that all entrance fees to the game venue which is located inside the Wan Smol Bag Sports field located at Tagabe, it is free to the public.
