THE Hockey for Everyone program began last week at Wan Smol Bag Sports Field.
The program is working with people with disabilities to learn Hockey skills, get active and build friendships.
Nasse Multungtung ,the Hockey program manager and sports development officer and Todd Kitto an Australian Volunteer for International Development working with the Vanuatu Hockey Association to further develop the sport in Vanuatu, took the team of people with disabilities, from the Rainbow Theatre Group, through ball handling drills and fun games.
The Hockey for Everyone program will continue once a month at Wan Smol Bag with the goal to build Hockey skills and highlight the fact that sport is for people of all abilities. This program breaks down barriers, builds confidence and encourages disability inclusion across the community.
The games have been modified with the use of soft tennis balls, plastic hockey sticks and a focus on team work. Vanuatu Hockey would encourage any members of the community with a disability who would like to participate to contact the Sports office at Wan Smol Bag for the next Hockey for Everyone session information.
Vanuatu Hockey is committed to sharing the game with everyone and supports the right of people with disabilities to be involved in all aspects of the game, including full and equal active participation.
