Too Little Too Late for Smolbag Smashers

Bob Stewart added to his handful of goals for the Championship with a nice deflected shot after some nifty build-up play from the Smashers mid-field deep in the first half.  The lone goal broke the deadlock but to the Development Squad's credit their defense held firm in the second term to thwart Smolbag's relentless attack thanks in large to some deft goalkeeping by Martin Ken.

Earlier in the day saw a grand final preview between Tanoliu's two top teams.  After some great passages of mid-field tussle, Kasse was the first to open their account with a lovely tap in goal to Joel Donald after a scramble in the cirlce.  Skelet Fish held their nerve go into the second half and clawed back with a field goal to Paul Jeffrey and were unlucky not to equalise.

However Kasse showed why they deserve to finish on top of the Gilion Hockey 11s Ladder with what would surely be the goal of the Championship; a through pass to forward Jerry Berry and a clean strike from the top of the circle, beating the keeper on the far post.  Skelet Fish finished strongly and was unlucky not to come up with a draw in what was an intriguing preview to the big match with everything at stake this Sunday 2pm at Ulei Secondary School Oval.
