Hockey History in Tanoliu!

Four teams have registed for the inuagarul tournament, three from Tanoliu Hockey Club and one from Smolbag Hockey Club.  A crowd of well over one hundred spectators welcomed the visiting team from Port Vila, the Smolbag Smashers, as they went head-to-head with the Tanoliu Skelet Fish in the marquee match-up of the first round of the history making Gillion 11's Championship held in the picturesque village of Tanoliu, Noth Efate.

It was a tighlty contested match with both teams sparring cautiously in the first half.  Tanoliu sprang ahead late in the first term with a lovely field goal to Jerry to capitalise on their home field advantage.  The second half was a relentless affair; both teams toe-to-toe for the full period, with Tanoliu notching another field goal to Mark for a final score of 2 - 0.  The Smashers are to be commended for an impressive effort in their first game of hockey on a grass field.

The second match was the local derby between Tanoliu and Tanolliu Kasse.  Kasse was dominant from the outset with a goal early on and were hardly threatened by the couragous development team, takinga 2 - nil scoreline into the final whistle.

Not only is this the first 11-a-side match ever held in Vanuatu, but also the first hockey competition held outside of Port Vila and the VHF has to thank Tanololiu Hockey Club for their dedication and enthusiasm to host the event.  "We are extremely proud to be making a part of history here in Tanoliu and the support form teh whole village so far has been great!", VHF Vice President George Kalkaua said.
