In celebrating the 25th Anniversary for NECO and Palau Pacific Resort – Neco Marine donated $1,000 to Canoe Association of Palau to host a father’s day June 21st Canoe Race at the beach front of Palau Pacific Resort. The event was a success with 4 State Women’s Teams and 5 State Men’s Teams. The State Teams are preparing for the upcoming Belau Games 2009 – and these event provided the paddlers the opportunity to test their endurance and paddling skills at least few weeks before the big race at the Belau National Games. The event for the June 21st were 500m sprint and 1500m sprints with turns at the PPR ocean front. The Melekeok Women’s team dominated the both sprints races, and the Koror State Men’s team took the overall for Men’s sprint races. The Canoe Association of Palau extends congratulations to all the teams namely: Melekeok (men and women), Koror (men and women), Ngardmau (men and women), Ngaremlengui Men’s Team, and Peleliu State (men and women) teams. The Canoe Association also extends appreciation to Koror State Rangers for setting up the course and officiating in the water, PPR for the venue and donating drinks and fruits, and NECO Marine for donating cash prizes and providing lunch for all paddlers. Congratulations to all paddlers. The practices now leading up the Belau Games are now at Meyuns Ramp. The Canoe Association of Palau kindly asks everyone in our community that the canoes will be based at Meyuns Ramp and that we all look after the canoes while they are there for paddlers to practice. The Canoe Race for Belau Games is set for July 24th for sprints and 25th for longdistance. For any information about Belau Games, please contact Jacky at 488-2442 or Baklai Temengil at 488-4367.
