Sechou CUP, a tribute to paddlers

The Canoe Association of Palau and local paddlers and friends, hosted the 1st Sechou Cup Event at Ngermid Bay. Six teams participated in the Events of 500m race and 1000m race. Additional three men teams from Ngermid registered for a special race event of 500m – the Sechou Ngermid Challenge. The Sechou Cup tribute was to pay respect and remember Sechou “Mark” Rengiil dedicating this event for him, including a remembrance dedication to   Bob Kumangai, Michael Tongg, Connie Kumangai, Ryan Cepeda (Guam), and Kayleen Mendiola (Guam).   These individuals were all paddlers and were wonderful friends and family members who are missed by many paddlers every day at paddling.   The paddlers dedicated this event with a theme “paddle from the heart” to recognize those paddlers that have departed and to celebrate paddling as a lifestyle that brings families and friends together. The Canoe Association of Palau recognizes Legislator of Ngermid Hamlet, Mr. Wilson Ngirausui and the boys of Ngermid Hamlet for helping set up and organize the event, the families of Sechou Mark Rengiil for participating and supporting the event, Demei and Sikosang Yobech family for donating water,   Bob Kumangai’s family for donating food, Koror State Rangers for setting up the course and helping officiating the program, Team Waterfall and Tim Taki for providing food for everyone and Ngermid Youth also for hosting BBQ for the paddlers and Mr. John Zimmer for joining the paddlers and giving an opening prayer on this very special occasion.. The race results finals: 1st Place 500m time of 2:16 is Shark Bait; 2nd place time 500m 2:17 Waterfall Team and 3rd place time 2:22 Shark Riders. Women’s Time: Team Taki 2 took 1st place - 500m at 2:54; Team Taki 1 took 2nd place -500m at 2:56 and Bobsters came in 3rd place with a time of 3:04 at the 500m. The Ngermid Challenge time for the Men’s Teams: 1st place 500m went to Team 2 with a time of 2:53; 2nd place 500m Team 1 with a time of 2:50; and 3rd place went to Team 3 with a time of 3:14 on the 500m. The individual paddlers in the teams are : Team Taki women’s Team: Mari Kishigawa, Carolyn Takada, Cynthia Malsol, Ulai Tomoichi, Mhyotel Ngual, Tamara Ngirmang, Yuri Kishigawa, Pam Adelbai, Anja Flowers, Jill Nakamura: The Bobsters Women & ½ Team: Jaime Nagata, Ethen & Ezra Decherong, Issa Gomez, Jaime Ngirausui, Laine Rubeang, Pauleen Brechtefeld, Marina Toribiong: Waterfall Men’s Team: Valenitne Pedro, Denio Pedro, Junior Bretchefeld, Estephan, Tino Faatuuala, Fed Lucci. Shark Rider Men’s Team: O’Quinn Sakuma, Demei Yobech, Herman Malsol, Mathew Drexel “Yars”, Jimmy Sakuma, and Nelson Masang, Jr.; Shark Bait Men’s Team: Jo Villafor, Bill Tony, Joe Carlos, Youri Ito, Yamato Towai, Jonathan Castaneda. Ngermid Challenge Team 1: Dino, Spis G, Jesse, Biribo, Oj, Waylon: Ngermid Challenge Team 2: Tomei, Ongor, Hosei, Wilson, Ito, Taru: Ngermid Challenge Team 3: Spis A, Dane, Joey, James, Babaed, King. Micro Cup 2016 Registration Fee $400.00 /10 per crew

V6 Sprints Oct 22 and V6 Long distance Oct 23.  Offering 500m V1 sprint Open only on Oct 21st if there is enough paddlers to register by Oct 10th.
