Call to Attend National Men’s Basketball Team Meeting

Solomon Islands basketball caretaker coach Eric Malcolm is calling on all interested male National Team players to attend a team meeting and planning session on Tuesday 16 October.

An improved performance at the 2017 Melanesia Cup under the guidance of Coach Brendan Beak impressed FIBA officials and there is a good chance that Solomon Islands will be granted a wildcard entry to the Pacific Games in Samoa in July 2019. But the team needs to stay on track with their preparations towards next year’s event.

Solomon Islands men’s basketball squad members have been back in training since June, twice each week in mostly skills-based sessions at Holy Cross, as well as in recent weeks representing their club teams in the Honiara Basketball League on Sundays at the Multipurpose Hall. With a solid skills base in place, the squad must now intensify its training regime, including introducing strength and conditioning work and setting a formal training plan as we move towards 2019. Coach Malcolm is seeking for the meeting to be collaborative, with players being asked to provide input into the training plan for next year’s Pacific Games.

All male players involved in the 2017 Melanesia Cup, as well as all other players interested in trialling for the national men’s team, are invited to attend the meeting, which will commence promptly at 6pm on Tuesday 16 October at the NOCSI Conference Room.
