NECO, X-Men top rivals

Defending champion Neco and team President’s X-Men showed their winning forms as they beat separate rivals, Wednesday night in the ongoing 2014 season of the Rudimch Enterprise Government/Business League at the Palau National gym.

Neco displayed consistency as they went on to beat a tough WCTC Powerball, 93-78. Neco meant business as they took an early 16-10 lead in the opening frame, they continued their run as they outscored WCTC Powerball 26-21 in the second quarter to take a 42-31 advantage in the half.

Neco then stood their ground in the second half of play as they went on to nail the win with Arvin Pramo leading the way with 17 points while Nico Hinoza and Chris chipped in identical 16 markers, respectively.

On the other hand, Tobel Techur topscored for WCTC Powerball with 23 while Al Obrero had 20 on the losing end.

Meanwhile, President X-Men showed their run and gun style of play as they went on to fend off Ministry of Finance (MOF) Omsangel, 91-80.

Trailing 17-23 in the opening quarter, the President’s X-Men found their rhythm in the second as they outclassed MOF Omsangel with a 28-16 run to take a 45-39 lead at the half. From there, the President’s X-Men took control of the game as they went away with the win.

Douglas Schmidt Jr. tallied 34 points for the President’s X-Men as teammates Perry Oiterong had 24 while Jeffrey Tkel and Weston carried the scoring chores for MOF Omsangel with 15 and 14 baskets, in that order.

In other games, KSG Royals won over PPUC Electric Eel, 88-68; Neco drubbed SDA Crusaders, 104-46; PRR Dragons beat Mason’s Mercury, 100-84; Yrang’s Salon bested Island Rhythm, 90-86; team ABC wowed team Malii, 60-40; MOJ Lawmen halted MOH Band Aid, 68-53; and Fish N’ Fins fend off PPR Stingrays, 75-62.

Games will resume tonight with Team ABC versus MOE Spiders at 6 p.m. while Team Malii will face MOJ Lawmen at 7:30 p.m. Monday night games will feature MOE Spiders against MOH Band Aid at 6 p.m. followed by the MOF Omsangel-KSG Royals tussle at 7:30 p.m. while PPR Stingrays will take on PRR Dragons in the main game at 9 p.m.

In other news, the Palau Basketball Federation (PBF) in collaboration with the Palau National Olympic Committee (PNOC) has announced that they are looking for a National Basketball Development Officer.

Application forms are available at the PNOC office and deadline for submission of applications will be on September 12.
