Sonsorol lady cagers score 2nd win

Sonsorol lady cagers notched their second win in the women’s basketball after beating Ngeremlengui, 70-21 Sunday in the ongoing 2013 Belau Games held at the Palau National gym.

The win placed Sonsorol in the early lead in the team standings with a 2-0 win-loss card after besting Kayangel, 55-52 in their first assignment Saturday.

In other games, Koror drubbed Ngeremlengui, 82-11; and Ngatpang won over Ngeremlengui, 79-22.

In the men’s division, five states have already barged their way into the winning column. As follows are the results of the games over the weekend: Ngarchelong won over Ngardmau, 75-55; Ngiwal bested Airai, 51-41; Sonsorol defeated Hatohobei, 65-62; Ngeremlengui downed Koror, 74-73; Ngardmau outgunned Airai, 90-78; Kayangel defeated Ngaraard, 61-56; Peleliu outclassed Melekeok, 80-59; Ngatpang won over Ngarchelong, 80-65; and Ngiwal donwed Melekeok, 40-37.

Games will resume today with Sonsorol versus Koror (men’s) at 11 a.m. followed by the Airai-Ngatpang tussle (men’s) at 12:45 p.m. as Sonsorol will face Ngaptang (women’s) at 2:30 p.m. while Peleliu will meet Ngardmau (men’s) at 4:15 p.m. Koror will see action against Ngaraard (women’s) at 6 p.m. while Ngeremlengui will take on Ngaraard (men’s) in the main game at 7:45 p.m.

Games on Wednesday: Ngarchelong vs. Peleliu (men’s) at 11 a.m.; Ngiwal vs. Ngatpang (men’s) at 12:45 p.m.; Sonsorol vs. Ngaraard (women’s) at 2:30 p.m.; Kayangel vs. Ngatpang (women’s) at 4:15 p.m.; Ngeremlengui vs. Sonsorol (men’s) at 6 p.m.; Melekeok vs. Ngardmau (men’s) at 7:45 p.m.

Thursday games: Ngeremlengui vs. Kayangel (men’s) at 11 a.m.; Koror vs. Sonsorol (women’s) at 12:45 p.m.; Kayangel vs. Ngeremlengui (women’s) at 2:30 p.m.; Ngatpang vs. Peleliu (men’s) at 4:15 p.m.; Ngarchelong vs.Melekeok (men’s) at 6 p.m.; and Hatohobei vs. Koror (men’s) at 7:45 p.m.
