KAYANGEL OUTREACH PROGRAM

Travelling by boat early on Friday morning, the 2 hour trip to Palau’s northern most island state was blessed with beautiful calm conditions.  The Governor of Kayangel State, Mr Edwin Chiokai welcomed the visitors, and the population of Kayangel provided superb food and accommodation until Sunday.

The local population (total of 94) was divided into teams to compete in the following sports:

  • Softball
  • Volleyball
  • Basketball
  • Table Tennis
  • Swimming
  • Track and Field

PBF NBDO, Topps Sungino, not only lead the basketball activities but also co-ordinated the whole weekend.  The sporting competitions went all day through Friday and Saturday.  Trophies were supplied by PNOC and presented to the winning teams.

In addition to providing the opportunity for sports, the PNOC team also asisted in organising and helping the local community in cleaning up the foreshores on the island.  A truly community based program.

The PNOC Outreach Program usually conducts 2-3 programs in the outer states each year and is funded by grants from the IOC.
