Fiji women close the gap against Lebanon

BENGALURU (FIBA Women’s Asia Cup 2017 - Division B) – In game two of Fiji’s FIBA Women’s Asia Cup 2017 – Division B campaign they played against a spirited Lebanon side.

After a slow start, Fiji picked up their scoring effort only being outscored by 3 in the second quarter. The addition of Mili Koyamainavure changed the look of the Fiji side, moving the ball more efficiently and get out on the break.

Fiji is still finding their feet on defence and eventually fell 90-48. Koyamainavure top scored with 13 points and 7 rebounds where Seini Dobui added 12 points of her own. With the full team now assembled in Bengaluru, Fiji will look to keep improving and see if they can challenge Kazakhstan and notch their first win of the event.

Head Coach Lai Puamau isn’t letting the scores deter him or his team from getting better.

“We just need to lift to the next level, we are playing a bit like we are still back home but we will adjust,” he said.

“Our offense improved this game but we need to keep getting better on defence, this is where we will close the gap.”

“It’s a great experience for our team to be playing here in Asia and we will just keep getting better from this.”

Fiji’s next game is against Kazakhstan on Tuesday 25th of July at 10am Fiji time.
