Basketball Fiji’s objective for 2009 is to get to the “grassroot” of basketball and therefore a primary schools competition is going to start in the West and East. Basketball Fiji have visited 8 schools in the East and Mark visited 7 schools in the West with Emily Chambers towards the end of this year, indications from schools were tremendous.

Head teachers of schools expressed their interest in developing new sports into schools so children have a better scope in choosing the sport they like to play and the raw talents they have that will enable them to enjoy the game of their choice.

We would like to introduce grades of under 14 and under 12 in both categories. At the moment there is ongoing development in Raiwai with primary school students. It’s a sight to see children from the age of 6yrs being involved. This is a lead up to the primary schools competition for 2009. Primary schools that have being identified are schools that have a basketball facility.
