Saints, Wed C win basketball Easter comp

Suva Basketball clubs, Saints and Wed C took top honors at the two-day Post Fiji Easter Basketball tournament that ended at the Vodafone Arena today. Saints won the mens final, defeating Lautoka’s Vikings 62-36 while Wed C defeated Golden Bati 31-22 to walk away victors in the women's final. Saints had the services of national reps, Leonard Whippy and Jese, Tui and Semesa Sikivou with former national rep Alipate Tuilevuka. In the women’s final, Wed C with the services of several national reps including Seini Dobui, Dale Wise and Fiji netball skipper Matila Waqanidrola defeated Golden Bati in a close game 31-22. Fiji Basketball development officer, Laisiasa Puamau was happy with the level of competition this year, praising clubs like Boston from Raiwaqa and Idaman for their effort in reaching the eliminations. “It’s not just the teams with the biggest number of national and former reps that is stamped their mark in the tournament and that was a big encouragement to the growth and development of the sport in the country.”

Results: Men’s quarters: Shaq 31-21 Air Iguanas, Vikings 30-24 Boston, Idaman 25-27 Mighty Mights.
Women’s semis: Wed C 38-12 Vikings, Golden Bati 39-30 Chosen
Men’s semis: Saints 50-29 Shaq, Vikings 42-38 Mighty Mights
Women’s final: Wed C 31-22 Golden Bati
Men’s final: Saints 62-36 Vikings
