Our Basketball Fiji AGM will be held at FASANOC Board Room at 10 am on Saturday 29th September 2018.
RAIWAQA Basketball Association is focusing more on getting their children involved in the sport.
President Ruben Colata said they were the future Raiwaqa and national reps.
“Every Saturday morning, before the big competition, we always have time for our children to go through clinics and teach them some basic skills about basketball,” he said.
“We have children from the age of five attending these clinics and we’re grateful to the parents for releasing them to take up the clinic session.
“Raiwaqa is well known for basketball and to get our children in to the development program will help us mould them and develop them for the future.
“So when they turn 18 or 19 they are able to represent the country but it all comes down to grassroots development.”
St Pius women’s basketball team captain Pipena Mua said having weekly competition helped empower youths especially women to play basketball.
“It’s not just for the sake of playing the sport but keeping ourselves fit.
“This is a good development not only for the children but for all youths and for us we love this sport.
“Every single child that grew up in Raiwaqa is addicted to this sport so our aim is to develop ourselves and hopefully one day we can represent the country.”
