Basketball Fiji Exposes U18 Players

The Fijian Basketball Under-18 team left the country on Wednesday to compete in the 3×3 basketball competition in Bali, Indonesia.

The tournament starts today and finishes on next Tuesday.

Basketball Fiji development officer Lai Puamau said the team were selected following the national U18 mixed tournament.

“The team was selected after winning the national U18 mixed U18 tournament that was held at Damodar City car park on August,” Puamau said.

The four players selected include, Ro Kalesi Tawake, Nikhil Naidu,Rusiate Katonitabua and Estelle Kainamoli.

The team will be managed by former national rep Tiyana Kainamoli.

 FUTURE LEADERS

“Fiji’s participation in this event will not only be to compete among 15 other countries (Brunei, Cambodia, Guam, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Northern Marianas, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Philippians, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste and Vietnam) in a basketball tournament.

“The players will also have a chance to participate in a youth leadership workshop that we believe will contribute in developing future leaders within the sport and in the country.

“We believe Fiji will be competitive in the newly introduced code of the game (3-a-side) which is now in the 2016 Pacific Games and the Olympics,” Puamau added.
