GRSC TASAR Race Report - 17th September 2017

Second weekend of the season was another great day out. Race report from Mark & Kim who did a great job shortening the course as the wind dropped.

Race 1

A fleet of 9 boats set off at 1.25pm in a gentle SE breeze. Like Lightning was first over the line but was overtaken by Blew’n and Ratz leading up to the first mark. The wind then dropped making the next part of the race really slow. Ratz took the lead heading to the bottom mark but were still closely pursued by Blew’n and Like Lightning.

2pm saw the wind drop to less than 5 knots but by 2.20pm the breeze had come up again. It was really fluky and difficult to read.

2SheepStations was now close on the tail of the first three boats, but down the last leg Ratz took a mighty lead to win the race, followed by Blew’n in 2nd, Like Lightning in 3rd and 2SheepStation in 4th.

The first race finished at 2.45pm and the course was significantly shortened to account for the lack of wind.

Race 2

Blew’n was first to cross the starting line this time, followed by Like Lightning and then Ratz. The whole fleet started off closely before tacking in various directions to find the breeze. Ratz rounded the first mark with Blew’n hot on their stern. At the 2nd mark, Blew’n moved on the inside to take the lead. The 2 leaders then chose different courses back up to the top mark and Ratz slipped into first position. The race continued in this order with Ratz coming in 1st, followed by Blew’n, 2SheepStations and then Like Lightning. At the back of the fleet, Double Trouble and String Theory fought it out to the bitter end with Double Trouble coming through to cross the line first.

The second race finished at 3.30pm.
