GRSC Takes On ACT Championships

This past weekend saw 5 families from GRSC drive down the highway to attend the ACT Championships down on the lake. Once again, the people at CYC put on a great regatta that was enjoyed by both the sailors and the parents. Think its fair to say the parents especially enjoyed themselves having the chance for once to chill out and let others do all the hard work! :)

On the 1st day of racing, we saw great conditions on the lake with up to 12 knots providing 4 solid races in the afternoon and much better than the original forecast. Sunday also saw some great conditions with good breeze, whilst challenging shifty conditions really tested out the sailors on both days.

GRSC had a strong representation with 8 sailors in total competing - Ben, Ellen and Zac in Green Fleet, Joshua, Ryan, Ava and Nate in Intermediate and Daniel in Opens. I am really pleased to report that all our sailors once again did GRSC very proud and we are certainly seen as a club on the rise!

In Green Fleet, we had Ellen finishing in 10th, Ben in 13th and Zac in 15th from 27 boats in total and all enjoying the experience on the lake over 7 races. All 3 sailors competed in every race and loved the experience. Well done young sailors on 2 great racing days!
In Intermediate Fleet, Nate took out 1st place, Ryan in 6th, Josh in 11th and Ava in 29th from a massive fleet of 51 Opti’s. Congratulations to Nate on some great consistent sailing all weekend and for also taking out 1st 10 year old skipper in Intermediate. Ryan’s 6th place finish was a great result and reward for all the good work he has put in at training and club racing over last couple of months now and has really started to pay off! Working equally as hard and determined and committed as ever was Josh who was unlucky in several races this weekend in the shifty conditions, and then there was Ava who made a last minute decision to have her first crack at Intermediates and made us all proud with a great 1st showing! Well done to all our Intermediate sailors!
In Open Fleet - Whilst alone as our sole GRSC representative, Daniel stayed focused all weekend up against some of the best talent in the state and a very competitive fleet to finish just outside the top 10 in 11th.

Once again, congratulations to all our sailors and for being such a great bunch of kids all weekend! Thanks too to all the parents for your great company all weekend. I am very hopeful that next year we will see some of our newer green fleet sailors and their families join us at this regatta and many more to come.
