GRSC 2018 Annual Presentation Night
Saturday May 19th 6.30pm for 7pm start
Eight intrepid and keen Tasar teams turned up at Georges River on a sad looking day on Sunday. As we had no starter for the day Ratz drew the shortest of all the short straws and got to be the starter for the day.
The course was set in a light northerly breeze and once the countdown sequence started the breeze immediately shifted to the Northwest. The most observant skippers spotted the rain cloud to the Northwest that was providing a small amount of wind pressure from the cold air dropping from the dark cloud and headed out to that side of the course to take advantage of this. Cruzn arrived at the top mark first followed by Like Lightning. As the breeze swung the course was swung around, then as the breeze died we had a shortened course on the second lap. So the finish was at the next mark (the bottom mark). There was some conjecture on which way to round the bottom mark and finish the race at the same time. Cruzn the leading boat figured it out correctly and got the hooter followed by Eagle Eye (Noel and Els) then Slice of Life with James and Jordan. Light lightening managed to lose 5 minutes whilst re-rounding the mark in 2 knots of breeze and slipped from 2nd to 4th.
Fastest speed on the day was recorded by the escaping wing mark as it headed out into Botany Bay assisted by the ebb tide.
Most folks then had the pleasure to be towed home by the start boat in the rain.
Remarkably everyone seemed to have a good time and be in great spirits – which was fabulous to see.
