GRSC 2018 Annual Presentation Night
Saturday May 19th 6.30pm for 7pm start
It was a fantastic turnout indeed to mark the start of the new sailing season and provided many kids the opportunity to dust off the cob webs and join in a high energy and thrilling fun teams racing regatta. We had teams from all over Sydney including WSC, RPA, NSC, SLMASC, CPSC and ofcourse GRSC. GRSC was represented by 2 teams; GRSC Sharks (made up of Ryan, Daniel and Josh) and the GRSC Dolphins (made up of Ava, Ben, Ellen and Ari) who were compteting in their very first teams racing regatta.
Conditions in the morning were not that great and only a few races were completed before Andrew (RO) sent the sailors ashore. But on returning around 1pm, we had some great breeze (12-15 knots) for most of the afternoon and a further 45 races were completed by end of the day.
We were very proud of all our sailors and their achievements with the GRSC Sharks actually finishing in a tie for 2nd place with 3 teams and finishing 4th overall and our newcomers the GRSC Dolphins finishing 10th overall. Special mention must go to the GRSC Dolphin team of Ben, Ava, Ellen and Ari who were not overwhelmed by the competition out there which included the NSW YST squad and 3-4 other very strong Open Fleet teams many of whom are Top 20 NSW sailors. You should all be very proud of yourselves.
A highlight of the regatta especially for GRSC, was when the 2 GRSC teams came up against one another... This was a chance for our young gun GRSC Dolphins to challenge our more experienced GRSC Sharks and show them who's boss! It was a very interesting race with the Dolphins actually holding positions 3 and 4 from 6 sailors coming around the last mark only to be overtaken right at the finish line by the Sharks. Nevertheless, it was very encouraging to see the Dolphins mix it up and give the Sharks a real run for their money. Check out the video below of the closing stages of that race! Enjoy
