South Lake Macquarie Amateur Sailing Club put on a brilliant regatta and Adam and Lanne Beashel were great hosts indeed. If you have not already done so, check out some of the Facebook posts and you tube clips that have been posted online from the regatta. Many of the GRSC kids are featured both on water and on land! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eiEys02LVP4&feature=youtu.be
We had some fantastic performances over the weekend by several of our GRSC sailors. We should all be very proud of this group of kids we currently have at our club.
Green Fleeters (60 boats)
I keep on saying it, but what a super hot group of young sailors we have developing in Green Fleet. Following the great performance by them at the last regatta at Hunters Hill, (where they all finished Top 12), they have actually managed to take it to a new level. 60 Green Fleet sailors competed over 7 races, across 2 days, and split into 2 fleets and wow did they go well. I do however want to specifically call out Hayley’s 1st place finish in the yellow fleet. She really came of age at this regatta and picked up 4 bullets overall in the 7 races. A great result Hayley and congratulations! Ariol, Ellen, Brayden and Ben - Awesome results as well and as a team, we certainly dominated at this regatta! in Green Fleet!
Yellow Fleet (29 boats)
Hayley Messenger - 1st Place
Ariol Gold - 4th Place
Ellen Murray - 13th Place
Red Fleet (31 boats)
Brayden Downing - 5th Place
Ben Costandi - 7th Place
Intermediate Fleet (62 boats)
2 GRSC sailors represented our club in Ava and Ryan. Both had exceptional regatta’s. Ava’s performance on Day 1 was really pleasing to see, and of course she took it all in her stride :) She had 2 Top 10 finishes in race 1 and 2 and finished the regatta in the top half of the fleet in 24th overall. Well done Ava!
Ryan came to SLMASC with his ‘game face’ definitely on and the results followed. After a fairly decent Saturday, Ryno power came out on Sunday and smashed it with 2 third places and a bullet to podium and finish 3rd overall for the regatta. Brilliant effort Ryan!
Open Fleet (44 boats)
2 GRSC sailors in Josh and Daniel represented our club in Open Fleet. Josh was in his new boat and new sail and 1st Open Fleet regatta, and he certainly came out to play! A sensational regatta for Josh who really mixed it up with many of the more experienced Open Sailors and had 2 races of the 8 with Top 5 finishes. Well done Josh in finishing 12th overall and you should be very pleased with your efforts this weekend!
Daniel as many of you know came into this regatta with an invitation to try out for the NSW YST team. Despite our best efforts to not talk about this with him in the lead up to the event and have him coming in as relaxed as possible, he put too much pressure on himself and as a result was far from his best finishing 29th overall. Rob Brewer’s comments to him probably summed it up best when he said “Daniel, that was not the Costandi from the river club that I know”. Sometimes, it is these types of experiences that actually really help you grow as an individual and I am sure in time Daniel will look back on this as a great learning experience.
I could not finish up without thanking a few people this weekend…
A big THANK YOU to Jane Whitten for organising our Saturday night dinner back at camp GRSC. That was a certainly a feast you provided Jane and also had enough to go around for lunch the next day. Great job Jane
Another big thanks to both Dave and Michael who towed up their own personal boats to enable our parents to be on water watching our kids in action. Everyone certainly appreciates the effort with this and the opportunity to be on water so thanks guys!
