Welcome to NSDSA - Home of North Shore Softball
Welcome to the home of North Shore Softball! The NSDSA run Sydney's only winter comp. With the competition running from April to September, juniors' games in the morning and the seniors in the afternoon all games played at St Ives Village Green (Cowan Oval).
Looking to play? Here is a brief description of the grades we have in our comp. Ages for the juniors are only a guide. Discuss the best options with your chosen club when you register. All our clubs accept the Active Kids Vouchers.
Batter Up - ages 3 to 5, girls and boys
Under the nurturing care of our coaches, the youngest of our players are introduced to ball control (catching and throwing), hand-eye co-ordination (batting off a tee), and the rules of the game. Kids get to play a modified, age appropriate game of hitting off the tee, running around the bases and fielding.
Teeball - ages 5 to 9, girls and boys
The next step up is teeball. Here players hit a stationery ball off a tee. They learn in the importance of team work, encouraging great play, reinforce and build on skills learned in Batter Up and just having a load of fun.
Haven't done the Batter Up program? No worries, with club training held during the week and games on Saturdays, it won't take long for your softballer to develop into an accomplished teeballer.
Modball - ages 9 to 12, girls and boys
Getting close to the full rules of softball here. This is the next step up from teeball. Haven't played softball before?? No worries, with club training during the week it won't take long for your budding softballer to develop the necessary skills to feel comfortable enough to take to the field like a pro.
Here the players are introduced to a live pitched ball. Initially their coaches pitch to them, encouraging to hit the ball, all the while they are learning the skills they need to become pitchers themselves. If they batters don't hit the ball, the tee is brought out for them.
Softball - Juniors aged 12 to 17, girls
This is where the girls play Softball Australia softball rules. Again, if your player has not played before, with club training during the week it won't take long for the skills to develop so they feel comfortable on the field.
Games for junior softballers are still played in the morning, however there is the opportunity for the older girls (16 - 18) to play in the afternoon comp.
Unfortunately, we do not have grades for boys at this level, but when you make contact with your local club, ask them about their baseball teams. Comps for baseball are mixed and run during summer.
Afternoon Ladies Competition - ages 16 and over
The afternoon competition has mulitple grades, appropriate for all abilities. Haven't played before or haven't played since school?? No problems, with weekly club training it won't take long before you're racing around bases like a pro. When you make contact with your local club, make sure you discuss your ability level and they help find a place in one of their teams.
From A grade (being most competitve) to friendly C grade, there will be a place where you'll feel most welcomed.
Come on then, let's play ball!!
