North Shore pulled off a dominant win in the final of the under-13s Softball State Championships

North Shore have played a commanding final to win the under-13s softball state championships at Blacktown International Sportspark.

Taking on Cumberland Nepean in the final, the locals scored a run in the first innings to take a 1-0 lead but North Shore hit back with five second innings runs and ran away with a 9-1 victory.

North Shore coach Neridah Wearne said her girls deserved the win after going undefeated in eight games across the weekend.

“It’s really great for the girls, they played really well all weekend,” she said.

“They’re a bunch of girls that really want to play good softball and they’ve trained really hard so they deserve the win.”

Wearne said it shows how North Shore has been working hard to develop talent.

“I’m proud of the effort they’ve put in and how hard they’ve trained and also how they’ve coped with the pressure too,” she said.

“To be able to go out there with everyone watching and even held their nerve after the other team got an early run and came back and did what they had to do. They’re a really good group of girls.”

North Shore pitchers Matilda Newman and Jorja Baker, both 11, said it was “really exciting” to take out the state championship.

“It’s really exciting,” Matilda said.

“I’m just really excited it could do it with my team and not my myself. I couldn’t do anything without them.”

Both will be looking to push for under-15s next season.
