Samoa Shuttle Time Workshop

Shuttle Time Oceania descended on Samoa earlier this month to deliver a number of activities including Oceania’s first Shuttle Time Coordinator workshop and training for Samoan Tutors, Teachers and children.

After 7 years in the badminton wilderness, Samoa Badminton Federation has well and truly been awakened with visitors from around the Pacific helping share their knowledge and delivery of Shuttle Time, invigorating the new Samoa workforce.

The first day of activity saw the inaugural Shuttle Time Oceania Coordinator workshop take place.  There were 12 attendees including representation from Cook Islands, Tonga, New Zealand, Australia, Papua New Guinea, hosts Samoa and Badminton Oceania staff.  This was an opportunity for Coordinators from throughout the region to share their Shuttle Time successes, challenges, ideas, initiatives and future planning – the support everyone gave to each other was brilliant and shows the benefit in getting our people together to discuss in person.

Days 2 & 3 of the workshop was dedicated to training Shuttle Time Samoa’s new workforce.  Oceania Development Manager Nadia Bleaken, along with Donna Trow & Chris McIvor (New Zealand) and Michelle Au & Brandon Olver (Australia) took on the Trainer role.  5 new Tutors from Samoa were identified, and with help from their Pacific counterparts delivered training to 19 newly qualified Teachers.

The workshops took place at Hotel Insel Fehmarn Samoa, with a practical delivery session to a number of children at National University Samoa gymnasium.

A huge fa’afetai and thank you to Samoa Badminton Federation President and Shuttle Time Coordinator Nynette Sass for your organisation and drive to get badminton reactivated in Samoa, and kudos to the enthusiasm shown by your awesome team. We have no doubt that Samoa is in good hands, we are excited to see participation rates increasing as you all get underway with Shuttle Time implementation.
