Seventeen New Zealand Hockey Development Officers representing many of NZs Associations came together for two days for their annual conference. This also gives recognition to their exceptional work during the year as the days were beside the Women's World League Finals and they were able to watch games at night. The difference to their normal conference was the invitation to Oceania Hockey Federation to send their Development Officers to be a full part of the conference proceedings. The Pacific Island Development Officers involved were; Ana Finau (Fiji) Hiko Fungavaka (Tonga) Todd Kitto and Nasse Maltungtung (Vanuatu).
The conference had sessions that covered Hockey New Zealand's future strategies, existing programmes and presentations from Hockey New Zealand staff covering areas such as operations, events, community development, officiating and coaching. Although this was New Zealand focussed the Pacific Island Development Officers gained a full insight into the type of programmes and events that their Federations could look at.
There were plenty of group discussions where best practice models and programmes were shared and these were very valuable to the visiting DOs. Social interaction at the night games and because they were all being accommodated at the same motel has resulted in new networks being created and has sent the Pacific Island contingent back home with enthusiasm to try out new programmes and keep in touch with their new-found friends for further support.
